Snapchat is a new social media app that has jut shown up in the last year or two. It lets users take pictures and short video clips and sent them to friends. The pictures and video clips can only be viewed for few seconds then they delete themselves. the main age group that uses this app is 13-25.

Some ways businesses are using snapchat are rewarding current customers with mobile coupons, gaining new customers with giveaways, taking people behind the scenes, previewing new products, and telling customers about holiday sales and events

I personally don’t think this is a very good app for businesses to use because it just isn’t set up that way. This app does the same thing that Instagram, Twitter, and Vine all do and they do it better for businesses.




Tumblr is like a cross between WordPress and Facebook. It’s basically a blogging site, but it has social networking features such as liking posts, hashtags, following, and sharing.

Tumblr is dofollow, which is basically a hyperlink value that tells search engines to pass on any credibility and influence to an outbound link.

With the use of hashtags the ability to search, and find something is quite easy. There is a lot of content diversity on this site thanks to hashtags. Because of this it’s possible to have zero followers and still receive a bunch of reblogs.

Tumblr is also a great place to test your content. The Tumblr crowd is very vocal, if they like something you’ll know about it, same with if they don’t like it. Tumblr allows users to talk with one another via ask boxes and fan mail. With ask boxes users can ask questions and either leave them anonymously or they can leave their name. The ask boxes are a great way to connect with fans and potential customers, because you can answer any questions they have have about your business and get feedback.

Tumblr is also a great way to establish your brand and web presence.

Using Tumblr is great if your target audience is between the ages 18-26 and 35-49.

Marketing on Tumblr is a bit easier because the ads are posts so they aren’t that disruptive to the Tumblr experience. When there is a sponsored post on someones dashboard (basically the news feed for Tumblr) there is a little dollar sign  and it say sponsor in the top right corner of the post so people know that it’s an ad.

I personally don’t follow many people on Tumblr, but of the few I do follow some of them are musicians/bands. The one band I follow is Panic! at the Disco’s official Tumblr page that they have basically as their website. So they use Tumblr to announce any upcoming tours, random performances, new CDs, etc. On their last tour they asked people to post pictures from their show each night and they chose which ones they liked the most and posted them on Tumblr. It was a great way to get fans involved in their shows, have interaction with their fans, and

You can also track (follow) hashtags on Tumblr, which is nice because you can keep up with certain things if you want and it doesn’t clutter up your dashboard. When you track hashtags they show up in your search bar so you can either look at your tracked tags or just search for new ones.

Instagram is a photo sharing site. People post photos and they can add different filters on the photos to make them look cooler. Now people can post 15 second videos on Instagram. You can embed your Instagram photos onto your website.

Businesses can post photos or videos of their business, or products, or whatever they want really. It’s best to post photos of your business and other “fun” photos, the fun photos maybe what draws someone in to your page. You can, and should, also post/share photos that are similar to your business to get the attention of people who are customers for similar products but may not be aware of your business.

You can have customers post photos of your products and you can reshare the posts which engages your followers and shows that your business actually has customers. Don’t forget to follow your followers back as well. You can also have photo contests on Instagram. You can also use Instagram as a way to network. If you have a retail business you can reward followers with discount codes and other promos.
